Natural Deodorant - so cheap and easy, make it at home!

I’ve been trying many different natural deodorants for the past several weeks, but I’ve never been 100% satisfied with any of them.

I’m not an overly sweaty person, but like most normal people, if I don’t do something, I will start to sweat and smell. I wanted to test out this new concoction for a few days before I posted it up here, and I’m very excited that I finally found a natural, easy, homemade deodorant that really works!

Ingredients:

Apple Cider Vinegar

Baking Soda

Directions:

1. Take a cotton pad (like the one you use to apply toner or remove makeup)

2. Shake some baking soda on the pad

3. Pour some apple cider vinegar on top of the baking soda (I use ACV mixed with water. I already have it ready in a bottle because I use that as a toner. I wing it, but approx. 1/3 ACV to 2/3 water)

4. Watch it fizz!

5. Spread on your armpits

And you’re done!

Surprisingly, the baking soda seems to hide to ACV smell pretty well, but it doesn’t leave you smelling GOOD, just neutral. So to smell nice, I sometimes like to spray a bit of rose water.

It seriously lasts all day. I just did a sniff test and I swear there is no scent at all! And I applied it over 5 hours ago. FYI: I haven’t done any physical activity today, so I’m not sure how well it would hold up if you’re running around.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Health

sunshel:

ACV

If I could suggest any product to have in your home, it would definitely be Apple Cider Vinegar!

Natural Apple Cider Vinegar is made by crushing fresh, organically grown apples and allowing them to mature in wooden barrels.

Benefits

  • Increase metabolism which promotes weight loss
  • Increase stamina
  • Cure skin conditions such as acne
  • Fights allergies
  • Reduce sinus infections, sore throats
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Balance high cholesterol
  • Prevent muscle fatigue after exercise
  • Improve digestion and cure constipation
  • Diabetes: controls blood sugar levels

Uses

Weight-Loss: Increases metabolism, curbs appetite. Add 2 tsp ACV to 16 oz water and drink throughout the day.

Detox/Cellulite: Add 2 Tbsp ACV to 8 oz water. Cleanses your body and kidneys. (If this is too strong, drink ACV with juice. I juice carrots, cucumber & spinach.. hides taste well)

Hair: Use after shampooing to add healthy body and shine. Combine 1/2 Tbsp of ACV with 1 cups water, pour through hair. Check out my post on this

Face: Helps regulate pH of your skin, prevents/treats acne. Dilute ACV with 2 parts water and apply to face as a toner at night and in morning. (Also lightens age spots/scars.. Apply directly and leave on overnight)

Teeth*: Removes stains and whitens teeth. Rub teeth directly with ACV and rinse

Heartburn: Add 1 Tbsp ACV to warm cup of water and sip slowly

Congestion/Cough: Drink 2 tsp of ACV and 2 tsp honey in a cup of warm water, 3 times daily.

I drink 1-2 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar daily, use it in my hair, and use it on my face multiple times a day/night and I LOVE it. It gives your face a nice glow and makes you feel great. As always, I would go with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (I use the brand  Bragg).

*Drinking vinegars, acids or lemon juices on a regular basis can lead to a deterioration of dental enamel. To prevent this, vinegar should always be diluted with water or a pinch of baking soda.

NO ‘POO!

Haha when I first saw this “no ‘poo” thing, I was like, WTF?!

But then I did some research and I realized that I’m kind of technically on the “no ‘poo” hair diet myself (it stands for no shampoo)… I recently started using shampoo bars that only contain natural, plant-based ingredients (there are no ingredients that I can’t pronounce, let’s put it that way!)

I bought it from this amazing retailer near my house in Montreal called Earth to Body (their website is natural.ca). I bought their ESP shampoo par, deodorant stone and argan oil (all amazing! But the deodorant stone doesn’t fully mask my *natural musk* lol, but I’m actually not much of a sweater so I can get away with it in the winter).

The thing I realized lately is that my normally soft hair has become coarse, and it feels like its full of residue. I normally only have to wash my hair ever 2 to 3 days, but I’ve been feeling like I need to wash my hair every day lately. I have extremely thick hair and it just hasn’t been cooperating lately. I realize that I’m not using a conditioner and I think that definitely makes a difference in my hair’a softness, but I also think that my shampoo isn’t rinsing out completely since my hair is so thick. I had read a lot about the benefits of a vinegar rinse… it rinses off residue and conditions your hair. I just tried it out. Literally, I just got out of the shower and I’m in bed right now with my hair in a towel, anxiously waiting to check out the results! Here’s the “recipe” for my hair rinse:

White Vinegar (the only vinegar have in my house… Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to be the best)

Water (I used bottled… I’ll tell you why in a minute)

Baking Soda

Jojoba Oil (Edit: in retrospect, probably not the best idea. It made my hair oily. If you use, use in small quantities)

Argan Oil (Edit: see above note)

Alright, so there are numerous different opinions on the ratio of water to vinegar, usually between 1 part vinegar per 8 parts water, to 1 part water to one part vinegar.

Since I was going to be taking my concoction into the shower, I needed to figure out the best way to transport it, and find a container that can dispense the right amount into my hair.

So what I did is take a water bottle, pour out about 1/5 and refill it with vinegar. Then I put a tablespoon of Baking Soda. Careful with this; as you probably know, it kind of erupts when you do this… think science project volcano style… so make sure the water bottle is in a sink.

Then I just added whatever nourishing oils I had. I’ve read that adding some vanilla extract cuts the vinegar smell, or a cinnamon stick works well. I just used some Jojoba and Argan Oil.

Here is a link, and another one, and another one. There are links that inspired me. Maybe they’ll inspire you.

Just google “no ‘poo” or “vinegar hair rinse”
